Tono & Lims Deep Field Laniakea - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample
Details
Hue: Muted khaki-olive that splits into dusky teal-blue. Tono & Lims don’t publish a colour description for Laniakea, only that the Deep Field inks separate into two tones. In my swatches it writes as a soft greyish sage-khaki. The teal shows at the edges of strokes and in thicker lines. In heavy pools the olive deepens to a dark green-black. The swabs pool far more than any nib will, so expect the writing sample rather than the dramatic banding in everyday use.
Shading: Strong. It separates into two tones, olive-khaki and teal-blue, rather than shading light to dark in one colour.
Sheen: None seen in my swatches.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Medium
The interesting bit: Laniakea is the galaxy supercluster that contains the Milky Way. It’s a Hawaiian name meaning “immeasurable heaven”, given by the astronomers who mapped it in 2014. Its edges were defined by tracing which way roughly 100,000 galaxies are flowing. The branching gold artwork on the label looks like that map of the supercluster, with the small red dot marking our own galaxy. Its sister ink in the collection, Great Attractor, is named after the gravitational pull at Laniakea’s centre.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.

A 4ml vial, hand-decanted by me from my own bottle. Swatch photos are mine, on Tomoe River paper. Colours vary with paper, nib and screen, so treat them as a good guide rather than an exact match.
