Lennon Tool Bar Winter Tonics Red Beans - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample Vial
Lennon Tool Bar Winter Tonics Red Beans - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample Vial
Details
Hue: Muted berry red. A dusky wine shade that turns dusty rose where the ink runs thin. Sold by some retailers as a warm red, but on my swatches it reads cooler and more berry than that, closer to wine than brick.
Shading: Moderate on my swatches, with clear light-to-dark movement in the swab bar and darker pooling at the ends of strokes. Finer nibs will show less.
Sheen: None.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Medium
The interesting bit: 紅豆 (hóng dòu) is part of Lennon Tool Bar's Winter Tonics in Taiwan series, released for winter 2023 alongside Purple Rice, Matcha and Brown Sugar. The series celebrates the warming foods Taiwan turns to when the northeast monsoon brings the cold. This one is red bean soup, simmered until soft and sweetened with winter melon sugar. The brand began in Tamsui in 2014 promoting traditional indigo dyeing, before moving into fountain pen ink.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
Photos are my own swatches on Tomoe River Paper.
