Hue: Dusty burgundy. Officially it’s a chromoshading burgundy with blue shading. In my swatches, the writing and dip-pen line read more muted and rosy-plum than a deep burgundy. The blue, a deep slate navy, only really comes through where the ink pools heavily.
Shading: Strong chromoshading. Pooled ink separates into burgundy and deep slate blue, with a dark red edge where the two meet. In writing, it shades from soft rose-mauve to deeper plum.
Sheen: None visible in my swatches.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Medium
The interesting bit: Kitty Inkpot is a small independent ink studio in China, and Kitty Island is its experimental line. The bottle carries the name in Chinese, 荆棘女巫的玫瑰药水, which translates directly as “thorn witch’s rose potion”. It’s a fitting name for an ink that looks like a rosy brew on the page but splits into something much darker and bluer when it pools.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
