Tono & Lims x Moemi of Idea Switch It's a New Day - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample

Hue: The maker describes it as a reddish purple on application that shifts as it settles, revealing new depths of colour. My swatches broadly agree but land more muted than "reddish purple" suggests: writing and the swab read as a dusty rose-mauve, while heavier pools dry to a deeper wine-plum with cool blue-violet centres and a warm red-brown edge. Expect a soft, greyed mauve in normal writing rather than a saturated purple. 

Shading: Moderate. My swatches move from pale dusty rose in thin areas to deep plum-brown where the ink pools, with clear tonal breaks across the wash.

Sheen: None.

Shimmer: Yes — fine, evenly dispersed shimmer that reads silver to pale champagne on my swatches. Subtle in ordinary writing, obvious in pooled areas and under angled light. 

Flow: Medium

The interesting bit: This is from Tono & Lims' Puddle Story line, made in collaboration with Moemi of Idea Switch, a craft-focused stationery shop in Fukuoka. The series was built around the colours a puddle's reflection throws back, used as a metaphor for the passage of time — hence inks that visibly change as they dry. The Japanese name, 明日という名の過去 / 新しさの繰り返し, translates roughly as "the past by the name of tomorrow, the repetition of newness." Retailers have rendered it in English several different ways, so you may also see this bottle sold as "The Past Named Tomorrow, The Repetition of Newness."
