Details

Hue: A muted grey with a blue-green lean. Officially described as grey to blue-grey; in my swatches the written line and swab bar sit more towards a cool grey-teal than a pure blue-grey. Where the ink pools it separates into dusty mauve-rose and deep teal-black, which the official description doesn’t mention.

Shading: Yes, clear light-to-dark shading in the swab bar and visible in handwriting.

Sheen: None seen in my swatches.

Shimmer: None.

Flow: Medium.

The interesting bit: Turbulent Sea belongs to Tono & Lims’ Beyond the Horizon series, which honours early seafarers who crossed open ocean in wooden boats long before modern navigation. Its stablemates include Sunda, Sahul and Wings of the Sea. The label art is a dragon-prowed longship with a striped sail riding curling waves, which suits an ink that looks calm grey on the page but turns stormy (teal, slate and plum) wherever it pools. Tono & Lims is a Tokyo-based brand, and its inks are made by Lim’s Lab in South Korea.

This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
Photos are my own swatches on Tomoe River Paper.
I’m a collector and I’m always happy to talk ink, so please message me if you have any questions.
