Scribo Arancio di Sicilia - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample
Details
Hue: A warm red-orange. Scribo describe the colour as the scent of summer, and most list it simply as orange; several reviewers call it a tangerine or bright orange. My swatches sit noticeably redder than that. The pen swipe is a true mid-orange, but the drops dry down to a deep tomato-red with orange only in the thinner centres. Expect writing to read as orange, and heavier or pooled applications to lean distinctly red.
Shading: Strong. Clear light-to-dark movement across the swipe and pronounced dark rims where the ink pools, with the orange core and red edge sitting side by side.
Sheen: None.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Medium.
The interesting bit: Scribo is an acronym for Scrittura Bolognese, set up in Bologna in 2016 by craftspeople who had spent years at Omas — the project began, more or less, the day Omas ended. Pens came first; the ink range followed in 2020, built specifically to suit their extra-flexible gold nibs, and it arrived in the tall 90ml square stackable bottles with a slanted base so you can get at the last of it. Each colour in the range is named for somewhere or something Italian: Blu Capri for the blue grotto, Rosso Chianti for the full glass. Arancio di Sicilia is the island's orange groves.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
