Sailor Yurameku Yoi - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample Vial
Details
Hue: Dusky violet-grey, deepening to blue-black. Retailer descriptions and Sailor's own swatch lean grey, with hints of green and pink. On my Tomoe River swatches it looks noticeably more purple, and the green only shows as a dark teal edge where the ink pools.
Shading: High. It moves from soft violet-grey to deep blue-black within a single stroke. There is strong chromatic separation, with dark navy-teal edges where the ink gathers. It shows best in broader nibs and dip pens, and leans greyer in fine nibs.
Sheen: None.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Dry.
The interesting bit: Yurameku (ゆらめく) means to flicker or waver, and Yoi (宵) is the early part of the night, just after dusk. It is one of nine sky-inspired colours in Sailor's first Yurameku collection, released in 2021, and is widely described as the darkest of the nine. Sailor designed the range to change with the paper and as it dries, so it will look different on Tomoe River than on everyday paper.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
Photos are my own swatches on Tomoe River Paper.
