Sailor Manyo Nagi - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample
Details
Hue: A muted, dusty grey-green with a teal lean. Retailer descriptions vary widely, from "turquoise" to "blue-purple". The blue-purple refers to the plant's flowers rather than the ink. In my swatches there is no purple or blue-purple at all. It reads as a soft sage-teal in writing and deepens to a dark forest green where it pools.
Shading: Moderate. You can see it clearly in the swab bar and gently in handwriting, moving from pale sage to deeper green.
Sheen: None visible in my swatches. Heavy pools dry with very dark, near-black green rims, but there is no coloured sheen.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Medium
The interesting bit: Manyo takes its name from the Manyoshu, Japan's oldest poetry anthology, which holds 4,516 poems. This ink comes from a later Manyo release themed around foods named in those poems. Nagi is a paddy-field plant that flowers small and blue-purple in late summer, and its leaves and stems were eaten. It has a smaller sibling in the range, Konagi ("little nagi"), a much bluer ink.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
