Sailor Manyo Fuji — 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample
Details
Hue: A soft periwinkle-violet that drops to a dusky slate blue where it pools. Sailor label it a dual-shading ink and reviewers commonly mention pink or peach tones in the mix — I don't see those in my swatches. Mine run cooler and greyer than the bottle label suggests, purple through to blue-grey with no warmth in it.
Shading: High, and the reason to buy it. Writing moves from pale grey-violet in thin strokes to a much brighter purple where ink collects, with dark slate-blue banding at the edges of anything heavier.
Sheen: None.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Medium.
The interesting bit: Fuji here is 藤, wisteria — not 富士, the mountain. Different word, different kanji, and the bottle label makes it plain with the drooping flower racemes printed across it. Wisteria is one of the flowers that recurs through the Man'yōshū, the "Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves", which is where the whole Manyo line takes its name. Fuji arrived as one of four dual-shading inks Sailor added to the range, built to split into two tones as the ink pools rather than to sit flat on the page.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
