Sailor Jentle Sky High - 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample

Hue: A bright, saturated cerulean-to-royal blue. Sailor and most describe it as a "sky blue", and reviewers reach for words like cheerful and bright — my swatches are noticeably deeper and more pigmented than "sky" suggests. The dip-pen bar and writing sample read as a vivid mid-to-dark blue with real punch, closer to a clean royal blue than to a pale sky. Where the ink pools heavily, it shifts markedly towards violet and magenta.

Shading: Light to moderate. The writing sample and swab bar show visible light-to-dark variation, but this is a saturated ink rather than a dedicated shader. Expect more in broader and wetter nibs.

Sheen: Yes, and it is the headline feature. A red-to-magenta sheen that reads as strong purple-violet haloes around every pooled drop on my swatches. It needs coated paper and generous ink laid down — the writing sample shows it only faintly.

Shimmer: None.

Flow: Wet.

The interesting bit: Sky High was one of six colours — alongside Epinard, Apricot, Peche, Grenade and Ultramarine — that Sailor developed for the global market and then discontinued in 2014/15 when the Four Seasons line arrived. The reaction was loud enough that the six came back around 2017, and Sky High was discontinued a second time in 2020. Its closest sibling is Sailor's Souten, which is a shade lighter and is the usual recommendation as a stand-in. "Jentle" isn't a typo, incidentally — it's Sailor's own romanisation of "gentle", following the Japanese ジェントル.
