Details

Hue: A purple sitting between blue and red. Sold and reviewed as a dark purple. On my swatches the thin dip-pen line reads as a medium, fairly clear violet, lighter than "dark" suggests. Heavier lines and handwriting go deeper, towards plum.

Shading: Minimal. Colour is mostly even in normal writing. Variation mainly shows where the ink pools.

Sheen: Heavy bronze-brown sheen where the ink pools. It also shows at the edges of wetter handwriting on Tomoe River. In the heaviest swab it covers most of the purple.

Shimmer: None.

Flow: Wet.

The interesting bit: Shigure (時雨) is the Japanese word for the brief, unpredictable showers of late autumn and early winter, when rain comes and goes between spells of clear sky. It is a classic seasonal word in haiku, and the anniversary of Bashō's death is known as Shigure-ki. This ink comes from the original 50ml Jentle Four Seasons bottle. The same colour is now sold in Sailor's 20ml Shikiori range.

This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
Photos are my own swatches on Tomoe River Paper.
I'm a collector and I'm always happy to talk ink, so please message me if you have any questions.
