Details
Hue: Officially a dark brown like a cup of black coffee. On my swatches it writes as a warmer, mid coffee brown than that suggests, and where it pools it throws a dark slate blue-grey edge that the official description doesn't mention.
Shading: Strong. Light strokes go golden amber and heavier strokes deepen to dark brown, with darker edges on the letterforms. Where it pools, the brown and the slate grey split into distinct bands.
Sheen: Minimal. A faint coppery lustre in the heaviest pools; none in normal writing.
Shimmer: None.
Flow: Medium
The interesting bit: Made for TheCoffeeMonsterzCo (TCMC), the Canadian sticker and stationery shop run by illustrator Helen Wang, who had been wishlisting Robert Oster inks since she started using fountain pens in high school. The ink takes the shop's name, and the brief was a brown that looks like black coffee and dries like a coffee stain. It launched in 2024 alongside its sister ink, Day To Night.
This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
