Hue: A dusty rose pink. Herbin's name translates as "rusty anchor red" and the official description calls it a rust red, but on my swatches it writes as a soft, muted rose pink with no real red in it. The rust only shows itself where the ink pools heavily, drying to a warm brick-brown at the edges.

Shading: Low to moderate. Gentle in normal writing, with a darker rusty edge where the ink collects.

Sheen: None.

Shimmer: None.

Flow: Dry.

The interesting bit: Herbin has been making ink since 1670, and the standard line was created in 1700 by Jacques Herbin, a sailor, in his shop on the Rue des Fossés Saint-Germain in Paris. The name comes from his voyages: it is the colour of the rust that forms on a ship's anchor when the boat has been moored in one place for a very long time.

This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
Photos are my own swatches on Tomoe River Paper.
I'm a collector and I'm always happy to talk ink, so please message me if you have any questions.
