Details

Hue: Dusty rose with a soft brown, dried-petal cast. In writing, it matches the official description of a chic, aged dried-flower tone. Where it pools, my swatches deepen to a mauve-plum with a greyish-violet cast, which the official description doesn’t mention.

Shading: Strong. It runs from a pale peachy pink in light strokes to a deep rose-brown where the ink collects. Pooled areas separate into a peachy-salmon halo with a dark brown-maroon edge.

Sheen: None in my swatches.

Shimmer: None.

Flow: Medium

The interesting bit: This is a collaboration between Hachimonjiya, a bookshop in Yamagata with its own range of original inks, and Shoichiro Tobimatsu, an illustrator based in Nagoya. The colour draws on his illustrations and his signature palette. The Japanese name translates as “dried-flower tulip”: a tulip that has been kept and faded, not one fresh from the garden. It is one of three inks in the collaboration, alongside Antique Teddy Bear and Gentle Forest Dew.

This is a hand-decanted 4ml sample vial from my own bottle.
Photos are my own swatches on Tomoe River Paper.
I’m a collector and I’m always happy to talk ink, so please message me if you have any questions.
