Ferris Wheel Press FerriTales The Beauty and the Beast Valiant Blue — 4ml Fountain Pen Ink Sample

Hue: Ferris Wheel Press describe this as a true blue. On my swatches it reads slightly cooler and greyer than that — a mid denim blue with a faint teal lean, drying down to a steely navy where it pools. In brighter light it lifts towards cornflower; indoors it looks noticeably more muted. 

Shading: Good. Clear range from a pale denim in the thin areas through to a dark inky navy at the edges of pools, with visible tonal variation even in the swab.

Sheen: None.

Shimmer: Yes — a green-gold duochrome shimmer. It's a fine, sparse sparkle rather than dense glitter, and it does shift between green and gold depending on the angle. Most obvious in wet pools and heavy strokes, but you can still catch it in ordinary writing.

Flow: Medium.

The interesting bit: Valiant Blue is from the FerriTales 2024 collection, Ferris Wheel Press's fairy-tale line, and belongs to their Beauty and the Beast set alongside Emerald Gardens and Billowing Blush. Their retelling gives the heroine her own name — Patch — and Valiant Blue marks the point in the story where the curse begins to come undone and the Beast softens. The packaging is a fun part: the hand-illustrated lace holds portraits of both Patch and the Beast caught mid-transformation from bear to cat, and Ferris Wheel Press hid their own stationery products throughout the pattern for you to find. The company itself is Canadian, based in Ontario.
